3 LIVED-IN HAIR COLOR TRENDS TO TRY THIS FALL – Color

Lived-in hair color gets updated with three new techniques from Redken. Thanks to Shades EQ Gloss, these hair color looks are more long-lasting and low-maintenance than ever.

Typically, when you think about fall fabrics, you think about pieces that whisper rather than shout. Buttery cashmere sweaters. Cozy camel coats. Soft flannel sheets. It’s the same when it comes to hair color trends. Namely, we picture easy, subtle hair color looks that flatter and enhance without calling out, “look at me!”

Lived-In hair color is the ideal trend for fall hair color, believes Redken Global Brand Ambassador Sean Godard @seangodard. “It’s the perfect solution for providing your clients with the high-impact celebrity-inspired hair color that everyone is asking for, yet keeping it low maintenance at the same time,” he explains.

How low-maintenance? According to Godard, Redken has developed three Lived-In hair color strategies that keep clients’ hair looking “fresh out of the salon” for up to three months. The secret? It’s the beloved Shade EQ Gloss, the GOAT of demi-permanent hair color formulas. “The best part of all of these trends is that we can keep hair looking healthy, shiny and on tone with Redken Shades EQ Gloss,” notes Godard.  “We advise our lived-in hair color clients to visit the salon for a Shades EQ glossing service–which only takes about an hour–monthly, for up to three months in between each highlighting service. They appreciate that we can save them time and money while still offering long-lasting, fashion forward, inspiring hair color.”

Here’s a closer look at Redken’s lived-in hair color trends for this season.

Lived-In Lights: Natural, “Born With It” Blonde

“This technique is perfect for clients craving a low maintenance blonde,” says Godard. “We create a bright blonde, especially around the face, but then there is a soft transition from the natural base color. This eliminates any harsh, stripey foil lines and allows for a natural seamless grow-out.”

Lived-In Curlyage: “Just Back From The Beach” Curls

Many curly clients crave extra dimension. Hand-painted, sun-kissed highlights are the way to go to achieve this trend. “This high-impact technique enhances curl patterns, providing pops of color and the impression of additional texture,” says Godard. “Lived-In Curlyage really defines the voluminous shape of curly hair.”

The Lived-In Piece: Elegant Face Framing

Remember the 90s-inspired face frame that exploded in popularity in recent years? This is the 2024 update! “The face frame continues to trend,” explains Godard, “but what’s different is the color is now placed internally versus being placed on the surface so it peeks out from underneath. I especially like this technique for naturally dark bases because even if you want to turn up the contrast, the grow-out is seamless and the client doesn’t have to return to the salon as frequently for heavy lifting highlights.”
