Choosing the right trimmers – Barbers Only Magazine

As a barber one of the most important tools in your arsenal is a trimmer. When we first begin our journey as a Barber, we always wants the sharpest trimmer. However, it is also a good idea to not only have a sharp trimmer, but also a medium sharp or low sharp one for the little kids. Many little boys under the age of three cannot or will not sit still for some of the super sharp trimmers that they make today on their hairline. They are still growing and so is their hairline skin. Applying a super sharp, razor sharp trimmer on their hairline could lead to scars or cuts. Make sure if you are a new barber or even an experienced one that when you set up your trimmer arsenal that you don’t only have the sharpest of the sharp trimmers on your station.

Make sure you have a trimmer which is suitable for a two year old ; meaning not sharp at all and you will get the job done. Now, if you have been on Instagram, I am sure you have seen that barber using a razor on a one and 1/2 or two year old little boy, I’m sure this was requested by the parent. However I do not recommend doing this. Besides the fact that the little young man may move suddenly, as little boys often do , but when a little boy is that young, his hairline is still growing and making a lineup on it even if it is not pushed back is something that may hurt the growth of the hairline. So remember when you have your trimmer arsenal, which should be at least two trimmers, but I recommend 4, make sure you have at least one of those trimmers set to medium sharpness.
