Barber Boxing Official’s debut set for epic showdown in Telford

Barbering and boxing might not seem like two industries that would naturally merge, but David Lloyd set out to change that. This unique and exciting event, which is the first of its kind, is bringing together barbers across the country to get involved in a vibrant community – while offering barbers an opportunity to pick up a new hobby.

“Our first event will take place on 24 August in Telford before our second event in November,” David explained. “We are planning to hold at least five events next year, and host in different cities across the UK in Cardiff, London, Glasgow, and Leeds. The support so far has been unbelievable, we have Matakki, TPOB, and Players Boxing who are supplying the professional equipment.

“So far, we have 18 barbers across the UK taking part to raise money individually for a charity close to their heart.”

The event is set to be an unforgettable night, promising attendees the chance to watch some thrilling fights, live DJs, and an unbeatable atmosphere to bring together the barbering industry. Kicking off at 4pm on 24 August, with tickets starting at £26.99, this is not to be missed!

Sponsoring the event, co-founder and director of Matakki, James said: “Matakki scissors is a family run brand, Emma, and I, believe that community spirit is a real foundation to success. This is a value we have enforced within the company for over twenty years, through our own teams. Competing in events like this requires focus and discipline, the participants adopt a focused approach and in doing so give their time and effort selflessly for the benefit of the charity they represent.”

Co-founder and director of Matakki, Emma added: “Events like barber boxing provide a real social opportunity to contribute to a positive cause in a fun and healthy way.”

James continued: “It’s the coming together of people to support the idea that competition can be physically and mentally healthy when done in a respectful way, to reach common goals. A fantastic aspect of barber boxing, is that multiple charities have and will benefit from the event, as each fighter chooses their own beneficiary to represent in the fight”

When asked why it is important for brands like Matakki to get involved in these events, James replied: “At Matakki, we recognise the importance of giving back, we feel a social responsibility to embrace that”

Emma continued: “It’s a nice feeling when somebody sees your brand as a marker of quality and wants to work with you, it’s our way of thanking the industry and customer base that has supported our family business and brand”

David added: “Barber Boxing was born out of a desire to bring the barbering industry together in a unique and exciting way. So many barbering events are all the same, year in year out, so with this, I wanted to offer a different opportunity for networking while allowing the barbers the chance to give back to society, get a new hobby, and a new challenge.”

Speaking to one of the barbers taking part on the night, Rhys Phelps – also known as Ninja Trimmer – enthused: “I’ve been on a weight loss journey since November 2023 and have since lost five stone. I’m raising money for the Stroke Association as it is a cause close to my heart after my stepdad suffered a stroke last year. David has done a great job on organising this show so far can’t wait to showcase my talent and skills!”
