A THOUGHTFUL NEW HAIRDO CAN DO MORE THAN CHANGE YOUR APPEARANCE; IT CAN CHANGE YOUR OUTLOOK AND YOUR LIFE!

If you have been wearing the same hairstyle for years, it’s time to change up your look. A new hairdo can update your whole appearance and even give you a fresh outlook. If you are unsure what kind of change you need, take a look at these trendy hairstyles for women and choose the one that is best for you.

Women’s hairstyles

Loose waves
Put your flatiron away. Straight hair is out, and loose waves are definitely in! If you are blessed with naturally wavy hair, you’re in luck. Just allow your hair to air-dry and touch up the ends with a curling iron. To avoid burns, do not roll the curling iron too close to your skin. You can also use a curling iron brush, which protects your skin by keeping the heat a half-inch or more away from it.

For those with straight hair, you can easily achieve large, loose waves with a little styling spray and a large-barrel curling iron.

Lean your head forward as you blow-dry your hair; then flip it back to add some volume. Give your hair a spritz of styling spray and begin creating the waves by wrapping a section of your hair at a time around the barrel of your curling iron. Hold it for just a few seconds and then slide out the iron. Repeat until you have all the waves you want. Comb through your hair with your fingers and add finishing spray to set the look.

Beautiful braids
For spring and summer 2010, braids are back in a big way. Though classic French braids are an easy way to put your hair up in warm weather, the braided side ponytail will be extremely popular this year. This look works for long hair that is wavy, curly or straight.

Part your hair to the side; then pull it back into a ponytail on the opposite side of the part. You can leave the hair a little messy around your face or slick it all back into the ponytail for a sleeker look.

Secure the ponytail with an elastic band just below your ear. Then braid the hair from the band through the tips. Remove the band from its original spot and use it to secure the bottom of the braid.

Note: Traction alopecia, damage to the dermal papillae and hair follicles, is caused by constant tension over a long period of time. This is often a result of wearing tight braids, cornrows or extensions, which leads to high tension, pulling and breakage of hair. Those with traction alopecia must change to a looser hairstyle to avoid permanent hair loss.

For a dramatic change, consider going short. A pixie cut will really bring out your features. Celebrities including Halle Berry, Katie Holmes, Victoria Beckham and Rihanna have all worn some form of the pixie cut. If the change to a short pixie cut is too dramatic, work toward it in stages.

Head to the salon and ask for a short modified bob. After you are comfortable with the length, you can go even shorter for your next haircut. The pixie is a carefree cut that requires very little styling time, but keep in mind that you will have to get it cut much more often than you would a longer style.

Hair color for 2010

If you are pleased with your current hairstyle, you can update your look with color instead. This year deep chocolate brown is one of the hottest hues. Get multidimensional color with highlights throughout. Pick a chocolate base and add gold or caramel highlights.

Red also is on-trend in women’s hair color for 2010. Reds range from light strawberry blonde to deep auburn. This year rich reds are extremely popular, particularly for curly hair.

Because the 1980s influence continues to be a big part of today’s beauty and fashion world, we are also seeing hair with touches of bright pink, bright blue and vibrant purple. And those who believe blondes have more fun will be glad to know that platinum blonde hair is still a hot choice in 2010.
