As the cold brisk wind blows, and the streets are filled with Christmas lights, tourists, and holiday cheer. I have the absolute pleasure of sitting down with Keanda Vivar aka Keys . A New York City based makeup artist . Keys quotes, “She has been doing makeup for 15 years professionally, and consistently. But, has over 20 years of makeup artistry experience “
Hails from Bedstuy,Brooklyn with both Trini, and Guyanese heritage running through her veins.
She is known for Harlem Fashion Row’s 18th Annual Fall fashion show’s key makeup looks . She was the lead makeup artist for the Magnificent show celebrating Black and Brown Fashion designers. She is also an Island Icon Honors Beauty Nominee two consecutive years in a row. The New York City concrete pavements are Keys runaway as she loves fashion as much as she loves beauty . She spills the tea on her favorite overall style . Keys says “ minimal, elevated, and Brooklyn girl feminine with a little drama when the moment calls for it “ Keys loves clean shapes, luxurious textures, and pieces that make her feel put together without trying too hard” Her all time favorite nail color is black .
I ask Keys if I can ask her a few more questions for the Hype Hair beauty community, and she says, of course, let’s go.
Tamara Omaya: What are your 2026 beauty trend predictions?
Keanda Vivar: I think 2026 will be all about intentional beauty, elevated neutrals, soft sculpting without harsh lines, glossy skin, and signature lip moments that feel effortless but polished. People are leaning into products that multitask, simplify routines, and enhance their natural features instead of covering them.
TO: What is a Fashion piece you love , and can’t leave home without?
KV: Leather and great statement earrings . No matter what I’m wearing , a leather piece, and a bold earring always brings the whole look together.
TO: What body care, skin care and lippies are you loving these days?
KV: For body care, I’m loving Brown Sugar Babe products or anything with a soft, clean scent that lingers. Skincare , I love Lamer. I love hydrating, glow boosting products. And for lip, matte, and bold! Reds, Oranges, pinks, burgundy, Also, gloss with a warm sheen .
TO: What brings you joy , and supports your peace during your busy work seasons?
KV: My quiet times, and staying connected to the people I love. Stepping away from my phone, and giving myself space to breathe; keeps me balanced.
TO: Are you working on anything for 2026 that you would like to share with Hype Hair ?
KV: Yes. More online beauty series that focuses on lips, complexion, and everyday glam. Relatable and educational content. Also, a few inspirational fashion pictures and videos in the works. 2026 will be a year of expansion for me
I end the chit chat with What is your favorite quote : “ Humble enough to know that I can be replaced. Confident enough to know that there is no one like me” says Keys
