The performances are always a highlight at the AMAs, and 2024 was no exception. Other standout performances included Olivia Rodrigo’s emotional rendition of her hit single “vampire,” a lively set by Cardi B, and a show-stopping collaboration between K-pop sensation BLACKPINK and American rapper Doja Cat.
One of the evening’s most talked-about moments was the emotional tribute to the late Tina Turner. Beyoncé, a longtime fan and mentee of Turner, delivered a heartfelt performance of “River Deep – Mountain High,” which brought the audience to its feet in applause.
The 2024 AMAs celebrated the growing diversity and global influence in music. Artists from various genres and countries took center stage, highlighting the worldwide reach of music today. K-pop’s rising dominance was felt throughout the night, with acts like BTS and Stray Kids being nominated for several categories and performing fan-favorite tracks.
Latin music continued to have a strong presence as well, with stars like Karol G and Bad Bunny leading the way. The crossover success of these artists reflects the changing landscape of the music industry, where language and borders no longer limit success.
One of the special moments of the night was when Usher received the Icon Award for his contributions to music and his influence on the industry over the past two decades. Usher, who first burst onto the scene in the late 90s, has continuously evolved as an artist and remains relevant with new music, collaborations, and his Las Vegas residency. His acceptance speech was filled with gratitude, as he reflected on his journey and thanked his fans for their unwavering support.
As the night drew to a close, the AMAs proved once again that music has the power to unite people from all walks of life. The 2024 ceremony not only celebrated the past year’s biggest hits but also gave a glimpse into the future of music, as emerging talents and new genres continue to shape the industry.
