Gabrielle Union and her newborn Kaavia James is serving up a strong dose of mommy-daughter preciousness on the latest cover of Parents. Lensed by Thomas Whiteside, the starlet flaunts a chic bob styled by Larry Sims and a natural face beat crafted by Renny Vasquez.
Styled by Thomas Kristos, the Being Mary Jane actress poses it up in a variety of spring-ready ensembles from Gabriela Hearst and Fe Noel. Inside the spread, the new mother gets candid about her blended family, her five-year-long fertility struggle and miracle baby Kaavia.

On her blended family:
“We enjoy every moment,” says Union. “But days fly by in a blur of life. It’s like watching a clip in fast-forward. I’m like, ‘No, I’m still in it!’ ”
On fertility struggles:
“There was a lot of pain, and a lot of disappointment,” Union shares. “I felt like I was not only disappointing myself and my spouse, but all the people who’d hung a lot of hope on us. I felt like a complete loser and failure.”
On Baby Kaavia:
“When I ask her a question, Kaavia responds with a lot of animation, and she’ll pause so you can ask her more,” Union says. “She follows along, but she doesn’t do baby talk. When people talk baby talk, she gives shady-baby looks.”
