Garren, celebrity hairstylist and co-founder of R+Co and R+Co BLEU, was honored at the annual Met Artists Dinner, hosted by Troy Surratt, Nathaniel Hawkins, Sarah Brown, Harold James, Kristie Dash, Nai’vasha Grace, and Jacob Rozenberg.
Garren was presented with the “Icon Award,” for his decades of inspiring work.
Named the “Godfather” of hair by Vogue, and a genius by Madonna, Garren is an incomparable beauty authority with a storied, five-decade career. Garren’s work has graced the covers of thousands of magazines and he’s transformed the hair of every industry icon — Victoria Beckham, Naomi Campbell, Karlie Kloss, Audrey Hepburn, Christy Turlington, and Linda Evangelista. He has served as one of the world’s most culturally-impactful hairstylists, trusted by the fashion industry’s leading photographers, designers, and celebrities to create their trademark transformations, decade after decade.
“It’s wonderful, I’m very happy about this honor. I have been reflecting, and have all of these feelings that bring back the journey I went on, and so many great memories along the way. I have to thank everyone I worked with, the R+Co team, my mentors – Polly Mellen, Irving Penn, Steven Meisel, Jade Hobson – there are so many of them.”

For nearly 50 years, Garren has continued to push boundaries, and dictate trends in hair and fashion today. In 2014, Garren used his expertise to launch R+Co with co-founders Howard McLaren and Thom Priano.
“We are so proud of Garren on his receipt of the Icon Award last night at the Met Artists Dinner,” added Dan Langer, group president, LBP Prestige Hair Group and president R+Co. “Garren is a true Icon — it’s not just his immense talent, but his approach to beauty and fashion. What makes this even more special is that he received it surrounded by the top artists in the world.”
On Monday, May 6th, the beauty world’s most sought-after artists converged at Mr. Chow in New York after the Met Gala red carpet was complete. What began as an intimate dinner hosted by makeup artist Troy Surratt in a private room ten years ago, has grown into a celebrated tradition, attracting attention and participation from renowned talents across the industry. The private dinner presented by Violet Grey and Instagram celebrated the ten-year anniversary of bringing together the industry’s brightest talent after fashion’s biggest annual event, the Met Gala.
