The glass slipper may be off, but my pyn is down—let’s get into it with a Hype Hair Exclusive.

Only Maxie J could turn a birthday into a runway moment that had Hollywood pressed against the walls of Avalon. Her brand, Ellaè Lisquè, celebrated 10 years of glam, grit, and growth with a star-studded fashion show and birthday celebration that reminded everyone why she’s that girl in fashion.

With nothing but raw ambition and a closet full of dreams, Maxie J. birthed Ellaè Lisquè in 2014, a ready-to-wear line designed to make women feel sexy, bossy, and sophisticated all at once. Straight out of Inglewood, California, the self-made visionary started with just six dresses online, turning hustle into heritage. What began as a small spark is now a full-on flame: a powerhouse brand with its own curve line, a Downtown LA showroom, and receipts at Milan Fashion Week in 2018. Her pieces have draped the bodies of stars like Saweetie, Summer Walker, Sevyn Streeter, Tamar Braxton, Bebe Rexha, Hannah Stocking, Emily B., and the list keeps growing.

The unreleased birthday collection? A fairytale with an edge. Long, flowy gowns met sharp business-ready sets. Oversized sleeves danced on mini blouse-dresses. Sequins, shimmer, shine… pieces that didn’t just walk, they spoke love languages. The message was clear: Ellaé Lisqué is for women who know they’re the boss, whether they’re running the boardroom or shutting down the after-party.

The carpet was a scene of its own. I had a time with legends like Lisa Raye, new-gen royalty like Christian Combs, LA’s own boss lady Candis GraceJessica Rich, WNBA star Ty Young, fashion powerhouse Sir Joe, hair care maven Kay Cola and more. Media heavyweights Getty Images, TMZ, Sheen Magazine, Fashion Bomb Daily, and Young Bold & Regal were all shoulder-to-shoulder with me. Trust, if you weren’t in the building, you were watching through somebody’s lens.

Inside, the vibe was lush and dim. The bar poured endless Hennessy and white wine (I, of course, remixed my own cocktail: Hennessy with grenadine, call it a Pynnderella Sidecar 😏). Champagne towers dripping in pearls sat like centerpieces from a luxe dream. Everywhere you looked, there were It Girls everywhere, whether on the runway or perched front row. The Combs twins, Jessie x D’Lila, hit the catwalk, with their brothers Quincy and Justin cheering them on from the crowd.

It was also a pleasure gazing at Lakeyah, Dreezy, Sky Days, and Paloma Guerrero and so many more gorgeous gals strut the runway.

The music? A perfect runway playlist, every beat tailored for the walk. Then Compton’s own Chef Boy tore the stage down with his hit “Gang.” A full-circle moment, since Maxie J herself reps Compton. And the finale? Straight goosebumps. Maxie stepped out in a black, feathered, ankle-length masterpiece, held the mic, told the DJ to drop it, and rapped along with YG’s lyrics “I’m From CPT.” The room shook. What a vibe!

This was surely more than a fashion show. It was a decade of hustle, a celebration of culture, and proof that Maxie J and Ellaé Lisqué aren’t just dressing women, they’re crowning them.

Shoutout to Maxie and her team for ten years of undeniable fashion magic.

The culture moves fast, but my pyn is quicker.
