Looking for some extra insight on hair color trends for 2023? Jamie Mazzei of nuBest Salon & Spa in Manhasset, NY, wants to help you get ahead of the curve. As the Creative Director for one of the largest salons in the U.S., Mazzei is an expert on what’s trending and what clients are likely to want in the future, and he’s got plenty to say about what’s upcoming on the subject of color in the new year.
“It’s easy for your clients to keep their color looking vibrant at home by incorporating a product like Celeb Luxury Gem Lites ColorWash Color Depositing Shampoo and Conditioner with BondFix Bond Repair into their shower routine,” Mazzei advises first of all. “It will keep their color looking as fresh as it did when they left the salon, with the added benefit of a bond rebuilder as well as being vegan and cruelty free.”
As an affiliate of Celeb Luxury, your clients can shop for their maintenance products from you anytime through the Celeb Luxury website. They get a discount on every purchase, and you earn commission from every sale.

Illuminated Brunette
“In 2023, we will be seeing Hybrid Color,” Mazzei says. “Hybrid Color is a hybrid of traditional all over color and full head highlights. It is a continuation of the movement away from full time hair commitments. Hybrid Color is shiny with sparkles of light, it is multi-faceted. It’s a strong base color and pops of a slightly lighter tone. This allows the hair to have a different look with every turn of the head, a hybrid. Hybrid hair color is beautiful for blondes, brunettes and redheads, so everyone can enjoy trying it.”
One of the big benefits of the Illuminated Brunette look is the ease of maintenance. Mazzei names Hailey Bieber as a prime example of this trend: “When Hailey transitioned from blonde, as many do, she wanted low maintenance without sacrificing beautiful color,” he says. “Her solid brown under color is accented beautifully with her lighter golden pieces. The end result is a rich and expensive brunette.”
Radiant Red
“Another trend I’m seeing, especially as we go into winter, is a bolder red color – I call it Radiant Red, and it is one of my favorites. Actress Lindsay Lohan is a great example of this. This is more of a copper red, but the technique can be done in any tone of red – bold or soft, more golden, or more red. It can have many variations to personalize it to the client’s skin tone, so anyone can wear Radiant Red. If your client isn’t ready to commit to full red, Radiant Red highlights are beautiful.”
To achieve this look, Mazzei suggests an all over color with a gloss of the client’s preferred tone. For highlights, you should ask your client how much red they want to see amongst their natural color.
“Red is beautiful, but it is one of the colors that fades the quickest after leaving the salon with proper maintenance,” he cautions. Be sure to recommend Celeb Luxury’s Gem Lites ColorWash to your clients for this color especially.
Targaryen Blonde
“Another trend I just love is this Targaryen Blonde I’m seeing everywhere. It feels like a lot of people are taking inspiration from the HBO House of the Dragon show, but in reality, an icy, platinum blonde has been trending for a while. You can do a cooler, platinum blonde, or warm it up a bit like Taylor Swift, depending on what looks best with your client’s skin tone.” Cool platinum is an especially popular winter color due to the icy tone.
“This type of blonde requires regular maintenance, both in-salon and at home,” Mazzei says. Have your clients come in regularly to touch up their roots and prevent brassiness.
#Barbiecore
“If your client is looking for something a bit more daring and bright, have them try the #Barbiecore trend which, you guessed it, leans into everything girly, pink and Barbie,” Mazzei suggests. “One of the signature looks of this trend is pink hair, either in a pretty pastel pink or a vibrant fuchsia.” Lizzo recently rocked this look, and Mazzei expresses his love for her beautiful pink tresses.
“Have your client decide which side of the pink spectrum they want to be on, and then if they have blonde hair, it’s a simple process to add a gorgeous pink hue. If they have darker hair, you can bleach their hair first to ensure the pink pops. Or, you can add pink to darker hair for a more subtle pink. Pinks require a lot of home maintenance to stay bright.” So, per Mazzei’s advice, definitely send your clients home with that Celeb Luxury shampoo and conditioner to maintain their gorgeous new color.
