13. Best hair oil for after styling: Gisou Honey Infused Hair Oil

How To Use Hair Oil on Your Hair

Hair oil is more than a leave-in treatment after you shower. In fact, these are our favourite ways to incorporate them to our routine!

  • Pre-wash treatment: Whenever I have dry flakes on my scalp, I massage jojoba oil on it and leave it for 10-15 minutes. This pre-wash treatment gets rid of dandruff better than any drying shampoo out there. Word to the wise, when using hair oil pre-shampoo, make sure you wash it out completely after. I usually shampoo my scalp at least 2 times to ensure it’s completely removed. Otherwise, old oil sitting on your scalp could result in the opposite of what you want it to do.
  • Hot oil treatment: If you have low porosity hair, brittle, or frizzy hair, you’ll love this method as the oil absorbs better into your hair cuticles, resulting in it looking healthier, shinier, and smoother. Make sure your hair is clean before doing this and to have a shower cap on hand—this will create the “hot” environment for your hair to absorb the oil.
  • Post-wash: What’s the best way to seal in your hair’s moisture? With a hair oil! If you want to help it absorb better, I sometimes love mixing it with a hair serum or leave-in conditioner.
