If you want to learn how to do your own makeup or hair, what’s the first place you usually go to? If you said Tik Tok or YouTube, you know where I’m going with this. Recent trends have shown a minimal makeup style called “Clean Girl Makeup.” Now let’s dissect this.
Some Beauty brands relate clean makeup to the organic style of products they use to create the makeup. That could be clean makeup, but the girls on Tik Tok have developed a low maintenance style that looks more natural and realistic. It all starts with the brows, recently a new way to fill in your eyebrows has emerged, with creators using Eyebrow gel to pull up the brow hairs, cleaning up the brows with concealer, then very lightly adding in your brow pencil.
UK Beauty Creators perfect this look very well, with their matte finishing touches and soft blend. This Makeup look goes hand in hand with the trending Soft Girl Aesthetic. To perfect the soft girl aesthetic, you have to think everything feminine. From the job you’re at, to your significant other, down to the way you dress and style your hair/makeup. Tik Tok has been pushing this Soft Life trend more, because we love seeing things in elements of luxury and wealth.
Now some viewers have brought up the Soft Girl Makeup being signs of European standards, and that it may not apply to Black Girls. This thought process comes from when you search The Clean Girl Aesthetic and see mostly White women. Tik Tokers have even made think pieces about “The Clean Girl Aesthetic,” vs. “The Ghetto Makeup Aesthetic,” this debate can have signs of microaggressions, and possibly just not feeling like “The Clean Girl” aesthetic or makeup trend is not catered to Black Woman. Creator @keamonef offered the idea of calling this trend “The Glow Girl Aesthetic,” due to Black Woman already participating in Clean Girl Aesthetic including slick back buns, gold hoops and light makeup.

Black women fit in all trends, and honestly created most of these trends before they became popularized. When it comes to what we search, most of the time white women will appear first, which is why Black women tend to put the phrase “black woman” after whatever they’re searching for. Always remember Black women have always been and will be the Blueprint.
